Minoooshiah

Got a cute vintage movie screen in mint condition to match my newly acquired 8mm film projector (with gorgeous bakelite details). All were part of the Lori "16mm" Surfer collection. She is parting with things and moving out of town. That sux. I never got to see her installations either. Well, maybe in the mid 90's I happened upon a show at Emo's she projected.

I had an old 8mm projector that sputtered out carcinogenic fumes last I tried to use it at a party. I peaked into it's belly and it had sparks. I asked Lori to take a look at it and she did and confirmed that it was dangerous and a fire hazard. She also saw the sparks. Lori said it had parts from other projectors. I never caught that but it all made sense, things were always shaking and it was tres noisy. She was kind enough to dispose of it for me at the metal recycling scrap yard. Thanks, Lori!!!It is rare for me to find some relic that is completely useless and cannot be repaired. I was pretty lucky the thing didn't go up in flames the few times I used it.

Mail order: I have purchased a dress and tried on three different sizes, sent it back three times. I am awaiting a 4th size, we'll see how it goes. I'm bigger and smaller than I thought. Mail order gets old when you have to play ping-pong with the vendor. Still, it's a perfect dress so...I do what I gotta do.

I have been busy at work on a wholesale order. This weekend some new items will finally get posted if all goes well. I've been busy.

I have a giant corn plant on my desk at my day job and when I returned to work on Monday it looked ill.
OMG! Corn Plant! It was covered with yellow and brown spots. I feared a bug so I called over a co-worker who knows plants. He suggested taking a sample of the damage to a nursery. Another co-worker had a super duper magnifying lens and checked for bugs. I trimmed off the ugly, diseased looking leaves and Corn Plant didn't look so bad.
I took a sample of the "illness" to Shoal Creek nursery and the guy said, over watering with tap water. Tap water?! Corn Plant only gets Sparkletts. He said office plants quite often get those hard water stains or mineral stains because co-workers dump their leftover beverages into plants. He said it could have been coffee even. YUK!
I was relieved to find out it was not a bug or some plant disease. That's the first time I have been so invested in a plant, worried about it, sad that it was ill. But I *heart* Corn Plant. It is started to look much better.

There has been a lot of plant talk these days. The yard needs landscaping so we are doing some Fall work and planning for Spring.
Taking down the nearly dead Cottonwood and putting in two or three oaks instead? I don't know, we want a Magnolia tree but heard those are best left for a back yard. In the back yard: bringing in a Weeping Willow and putting down more grass. Maybe heirloom roses, but...I have no green thumb, so maybe not.

There has been talk of Christmas too.....I guess it is around the corner. I should be thinking more about it since it is my busiest time. I have been so behind this year.

Awwww the [temporary] cooler temperature at six and seven this morning was so sweet. Walked to work even. Yummy Fall.

Back to Mr Fab

Those who know me could always find me at a Mr Fabulous show in the mid to late 90s. Sort of dropped off after that. I recently introduced my husband to the ever entertaining Dino Lee and now we can both be found at Mr Fabulous shows.

Reed's Supper Club is a cool venue. Reminds me of the now defunct Zanzibar Blue in Philadelphia.

Karma-Please don't steal my hat pattern

Putting out the Anarchy Irony Hat pattern was fun and I like the idea of anyone who can crochet and read a pattern, making their own. However, it's weird that a few crafty people don't realize you cannot take my pattern and make your own Anarchy Irony Hat to sell. Unless it is noted or in the public domain, published patterns of any kind are not to be used in that fashion.

My hat designs are copyrighted and the one in the book is to be made for oneself or a friend not to be sold. I don't want to be one of those people constantly adding more and more "disclaimers" or copyright notes on their website, but when you start getting emails from England asking if it is okay to make the hat in the book and sell them there...you wonder what is going through their minds. No, it's not okay. You can make them to give them away. I highly encourage all hookers out there to get wildly experimental and create without patterns, new designs, new ideas. It feels good to make something original, remakes are so out.

Stanger Than Paradise

Watching Stranger Than Paradise has really put me in a mood. Love that film! I want to take along road trip in the winter or make a great film but first I just want to watch the movie again with my eyes half open. It's such a dreamy film.

I dated many guys who loathed this film. The man I married has it listed among one of his favorites.

Swanky Retro Swag for sale

is what the craigslist posting says and it is the swankiest swag I have ever owned but it's time for us to part. This lamp hung over the swanky stereo console in my apartment. That stereo was a hand me down of sad sorts and carried with it more baggage than I cared for and I could never bring myself to work on it so I sold it. I am selling the lamp because it doesn't fit my current decor. It's more 60's and 70's sunken den and my place is tres Be-Bop era.
As soon as I posted the ad, the emails began. People were promising me the moon so long as I held onto this lamp for one week until they could come by, others were moved to just comment and expressed their love and desire for one though not at this time, others wrote in to question it's origins and history-don't know, just a lil something off Ebay. I'm left puzzled as to why it never once got a single compliment all the years I had it. I still think it's tres cool but not willing to hold on to things anymore just because I think they are tres cool. Everything I acquired prior to 01/2004 has been under evaluation and may have an expiration date. I am enjoying letting go of all these things I collected. They served their purpose and now it's time to move them on their way so that they can be a part of someone else's past. To think of all the pasts these things have had.
